I was a very creative kid, especially before I got the hang of what was considered “good” art and “bad” art. These ideas crept in on me while growing up like they probably do for most people. In the early years of school, I remember feeling ashamed for not being able to draw a perfect horse like some of my friends could. I also remember feeling like an outsider in a writing class during my high school years, even though I had been writing my whole life. I didn’t speak their “language”, I didn’t know all the famous authors and I had no idea what a poem was. I then stopped writing altogether. I was silenced by the voices in my head. Even though I had a love of creating, I felt like the world didn’t seem to bother if the creations weren’t in their specific mold.
Who are you and I to decide what’s good and bad art?
Being creative has nothing to do with music, paintings, novels or pictures in general.
It’s just a state of mind.
I wish there wasn’t something called “mainstream”. Wouldn’t the world be wonderful if we’re all just expressing ourselves the way we want to? Think of how the music would sound, how the paintings would look like and how the written stories would make us feel. Sure, we might not enjoy all of it, but it would be raw and real. It would speak to our souls in a completely different way.
Creativity aside...
To bloom doesn't require creativity. This can be applied in any way you can possibly think of. You might not be able to be around other people all the time without getting exhausted, you might not be able to work as fast as the person next to you or you might not want to travel the world. You might not want to live like anyone you know.
And you know what?
That’s okay!
It seems like wherever I go in nature, I see beauty
A field of flowers in multiple different sizes, colors and scents. They’re not placed in perfect little circles and they don't look exactly the same. But their beauty lights up the world, making it a more beautiful place to thrive in.
Even though they don't grow in an alphabetical order, they flourish exactly where and how they’re supposed to. They have a function on their land. All wildlife does. There’s a very intelligent system built into nature that we might not be able to see or figure out. Naturally, the right amount of insects and other animals appear to continue the flourishing of the plants and trees and vice versa.
When you really think about it, the thought of a flower comparing itself to another one sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it?
If we take a look at our society, the only way to keep it going is to have different types of people in it performing different tasks. If we all had the same personality and the same likes and dislikes, we’d probably go distinct very quickly. We’re born to be unique.
When we’re not being ourselves, we’re not only going against our own nature, but the very nature itself.
You were born with certain traits, qualities and looks because you have a specific purpose in this world, a purpose that no one else has. Because nature knows everyone needs to be unique in order to survive. If we don’t acknowledge the intelligence of nature by being ourselves and blooming the way we’re meant to bloom, we’re actually going against it. Due to the power of the butterfly effect, we’re now destroying a series of incidents that should have been taking place to keep nature thriving, simply because we’re not being our true selves.
I’m not saying that a person who likes material things should buy them all and give their fair share to climate change, or anything that involves disruption of the wildlife or other people around us. I believe we all can accomplish what we're supposed to do in the highest good for all.
I always look to nature for answers since its intelligence goes far beyond our knowledge. I don’t think competing and comparing is our natural way of living. I believe we’re meant to bloom and flourish in our own way, to live in balance with ourselves, the lives around us and the planet as a whole.
How do you bloom?

Julia
Oh Julia, this is beautiful and inspiring! You made me laugh a little when you wrote that you felt bad for not being able to draw the perfect horse, I was the exact same!
I love the analogue of flowers, the way they all bloom just as they were meant to and not how the flower next to them is blooming🌻
